Department of International Economics (Katedra Międzynarodowych Stosunków Gospodarczych UEK) Joins NATO STO SAS-220 Research Project

A team of researchers from the Department of International Economics at the Cracow University of Economics has joined the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO) research activity SAS-220: “A Research Roadmap to Determine NATO-wide Gaps and Synergies in the Broader Defence and Technological Industrial Base.” The project will run from September 2026 to September 2029.
SAS-220 aims to develop research roadmap supporting the assessment of gaps, synergies, resilience and industrial capacity across NATO’s Defence and Technological Industrial Base (DTIB). The project addresses, among other areas, defence-industrial capabilities, supply-chain vulnerabilities, critical technologies and strategic minerals, and industrial policy.
Within the project, Dr Joseph Abodakpi leads and chairs Syndicate 2 – Acquisition and Lifecycle Sustainment, with particular emphasis on Strategic Minerals and Rare Earth Elements. Acquisition and Lifecycle Sustainment constitutes one of the principal functional research areas identified within SAS-220. The research will contribute to a broader understanding of defence-industrial resilience, acquisition and sustainment, supply-chain security, strategic-resource dependencies, and the economic dimensions of defence preparedness.
