On June 4, 2025, in celebration of the centennial of the University of Economics in Krakow, students and staff of UEK were afforded a distinguished opportunity to participate in a notable event— a chess exhibition featuring Grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda. This occasion was organized as part of the UEK versus AGH Charity Match initiative.
Jan-Krzysztof Duda, the most outstanding Polish chess player of recent years, winner of the FIDE World Cup and a member of the world elite, played simultaneously against 15 members of the university community, achieving a full set of victories.
At the same time, on five additional chessboards, it was possible to compete against Ms. Prof. Czesława Pilarska (international champion) from the Department of Microeconomics and Mr. Prof. Tadeusz Stanisz (player of AZS and TTKF Chess Club “Drogowiec” Kraków), long-time head of the Department of Mathematics at UEK. The result achieved was 4.5 points out of 5 games played simultaneously.
The simultaneous game was not only a showcase of chess skill but also a way to promote this royal game within the academic community, emphasizing a shared commitment to social good.
The Małopolska Chess Association assumed sponsorship of the event. The simultaneous game was overseen by international judge Mr. Tomasz Kinas.
